The Polycarbonate Skylight Can Brighten Your Home And Your Mood

If you've been thinking about adding a polycarbonate skylight to your home, chances are you are doing it for one of several reasons. Perhaps you're looking simply to add light with a little style. Maybe you want to add value to your home. Or it's possible that you're just interested in saving money on your energy bill with a properly installed skylight. Each of those reasons is good enough, combine them all and you'd have a hard time trying to figure out a reason not to install one.

A polycarbonate skylight is certainly the perfect way to go. Polycarbonate is nearly 200 times more impact resistant than glass. If a stray golf ball or falling branch is a distinct possibility, or even if a heavy hail storm comes your way occasionally, you need protection from breakage. Plus you'll find that most polycarbonate skylights have an ultraviolet film. This protective film will cut by close to 98% the amount of Ultra Violet radiation that comes through the light. What you are left with is an area of your home that is brightly lit and safe as well.

If direct sun is a little too bright for your liking, you can have your polycarbonate skylight tinted. There are plenty of options available. The clear lenses will let about 90% of the light pass through, but opal, bronze and standard tint options will reduce the light. An opal film for instance allows only about 50% of the light to get through, and it also will evenly distribute that light. The effect is that the light that does pass through the opal filmed skylight is more uniform. If you have a room that is seemingly always draped in shadows, an opal light film will reduce those shadows. Bronze allows even less light to pass through, about 40%. It is one of the darker tints available. Of course you can find more moderate tints, almost anything between clear and bronze is available.

It really doesn't matter what option you choose, a skylight will be a great addition to any home or office. Styles are not a problem either and finding one that fits your style and decor is easy. Select the shading that creates the ambiance you are looking for. And one other benefit we didn't mention earlier. Some studies suggest that natural light can actually improve your mood. There's plenty of reasons to enjoy your new polycarbonate skylight.
